Memorial services were 11 a.m. Monday at Christensen-Huffman Funeral Home in Ida Grove, Iowa, with the Rev. Kevin J. Freese officiating. Private family inurnment service was in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery at Ida Grove. Beverly was born June 6, 1931, on a farm near Washta, Iowa, the daughter of Lester and Helen (Mahin) Schumacher. She graduated from Battle Creek High School in 1949. On Nov. 26, 1949, Beverly was united in marriage to Delbert Hupke at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mapleton, Iowa. The couple resided in Battle Creek and continued to live there all their lives. Beverly could be found at her desk in Del's 66 and Hupke's Service Station for many years keeping the books and helping with the day-to-day business. Following retirement she spent several years working with the Battle Creek Head Start program and at the Ida Grove Public Library. Beverly spent many hours at the sports activities of her husband and three sons, Timothy, Monty and Scott. Many times she rode in the Battle Creek school bus when Delbert "Blackie" was the driver. It could have all come to an end when Delbert left Beverly in the cold at the Wall Lake School parking lot after a basketball game. The discovery of her absence on the bus and a speedy U-turn made it a memorable ride and often retold story. Bev decided to keep joining her sports-minded family as a Hawkeye and pro-golf fan and added the grandchildren's sports as favorite things to do. She was preceded in death by her husband in 2008; two sons, John and Monty; her parents; and a brother, Jary.
