Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery at Creighton with military honors conducted by American Legion Post #74 and VFW Post #1151. He died Friday, March 21, 2008 at the Creighton hospital. Billie L. York, son of Elmer M. and Marie (Meade) York was born on August 27, 1926 at Creighton. He attended Plum Valley country school and Center High Schoo. Billie served as a teletype operator in the 769th Army Air Force Base Unit in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater of Operations, entering active service in December of 1945 and being honorable discharged in February of 1947. He was married to Margaret Jensen of Plainview on March 3, 1957 at Grand Island. Four children were born to them; Jeanine, Brian, Bradley and Beth. The couple lived and farmed near Center. They entered Alpine Village Nursing Center in Verdigre in January 2006. Billie was a member of the Center United Church of Christ, where he served as trustee. He waas also a member of VFW Post #1151 of Creighton. Besides his dedication to farming, Billie enjoyed reading and playing cards with good friends, such as the Machs, Krepels and Lemkes. He and Margaret made several trips to St. Louis, MO to attend Cardinals baseball games and St. Louis Symphony concerts. He also enjoyed Nebraska Cornhusker football. The pride and joy of his life were his fourteen grandchildren. Survivors include his wife, Margaret; children, Jeanine and Tom Garesche of St. Louis, MO; Brian and Ronda York; Bradley York; Beth and Robert Reisz of Creighton and fourteen grandchildren. He is also survived by his three sisters, Delores Thornton and husband, Tom Perkins, of Honolulu, Hawaii, Phyllis Lutt of Grand Island, Pauline Burgi of Casper, Wyoming; brother-in-law, Howard Jensen, of Neligh and sister-in-law, Lucille Carpenter, of Plainview and many nieces and nephews.
