The elderly woman had gone to the bathroom before retiring and was stricken suddenly. When she collapsed, her body wedged against the bathroom door and her husband, who had rushed to aid his wife when he heard her fall, was unable to open the door. The husband summoned neighbors to assist and later Auburn Policeman Perry Lilly was called. The door on the bathroom was removed to move the body. The deputy DeKalb county coroner, Dr Perry Reynolds of Garrett was summoned along with the family’s physician. They reported that Mrs Mortorff died instantly after she was stricken with the heart attack. The body was removed to the William H Loy funeral home in Auburn where it will remain until noon Thursday at which time it will be taken to the Auburn Church of Christ to lie in state until final rites are conducted at 2 pm. Officiating at the services will be the Rev Arthur Garrigus pastor of the church. Burial will be in the Hamilton Cemetery. Mrs Mortorff had been under a physician’s care for some time and had been treated for high blood pressure. Monday she had gone to her physician and her condition seemed to be improving. A native and lifelong resident of DeKalb county she was born April 6, 1874 daughter of the late Homer and Elvina Baughman. More than 50 years ago, she was married at Ashley to Del Mortorff. For the past 35 years, she had been a resident of Auburn. The couple’s only child, a son, Baxter Mortorff, died in 1918 during the influenza epidemic. Mrs Mortorff was a member of the Auburn Church of Christ. She died eight days before her 79th birthday anniversary. ~submitted by Merllene #47157899
