She was also the granddaughter of Michael and Susanna Wetzel Freeze. Blanche never married and lived most of her life in Thurmont. Read More	Blanche Susan Eyler was born February 12, 1897, in Thurmont, Frederick County, Maryland, the second of two daughters of George Allen and Emma Kate Freeze Eyler. She was also the granddaughter of Michael and Susanna Wetzel Freeze. Blanche never married and lived most of her life in Thurmont. She passed away April 20, 1993, in Newark, New Castle County, Delaware, and was buried on the 23rd in Weller's Church Cemetery, Thurmont. Article from the Catoctin Enterprise Newspaper, February, 1987: "Celebrates Birthday. Pictured above is Blanche Eyler at a birthday party given in her honor at Royer's Restaurant in Thurmont. Miss Eyler, who celebrated her 90th birthday, was the original editor of the Catoctin Enterprise and served this publication in that capacity for many years. From same newspaper: "A Note of Thanks. Miss Blanche S. Eyler wishes to thank all of her relatives, neighbors and friends who helped in making her 90th birthday the most memorable one in her life. She also wishes to say 'thank you' for the shower of cards and gifts and for helping to give her the surprise of her life!" From the Catoctin Enterprise Newspaper, Fall, 1987: "Miss Blanche Eyler Returns Home After A Long Absence. Miss Blanche S. Eyler, former editor of the Catoctin Enterprise has returned to her home on 153 North Carroll Street, Thurmont, after a long absence while recovering from an injury. Back in July Miss Eyler injured her leg in a fall. The laceration which she sustained from the fall became infected and she was admitted to the Gettysburg Hospital for treatment where she remained for a period of 13 days. Upon discharge from the hospital, she was taken to the home of her nephew and niece, Mr. and Mrs. E. Thomas Meredith of 12 Sullivan Dr., Newark, Delaware to convalesce. During her stay in Newark, many relatives and friends remembered Miss Blanche with cards, flowers, gifts and visits which helped greatly with her recovery. Relatives and friends from Thurmont who visited her in Newark were Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Spangler, Mrs. (sic) Margaret Fogle, Mrs. Jenny Ogle, Mrs. Mary Willhide, Mrs. Elizabeth Keilholtz, Rev. William Peacock,Jr., Mrs. Connie Zentz Fox, and Mrs. Dorothy Pryor Wenning of Wisconsin. After a time Miss Blanche was able to make short trips in the car to surrounding areas which included Wilmington, New Castle, Milburn Orchards in Elkton, Maryland and others. Miss Eyler wishes to express her deep appreciation and thanks to all who remembered her during her long absence from Thurmont." Obituary for Blanche Susan Eyler from both the Frederick Post and theFrederick News, Thursday, April 22, 1993: "Miss Blanche Susan Eyler, 96, a former Thurmont resident, died Tuesday, April 20, at the Churchman's Village Nursing Home, Newark, Del. Born Feb. 12, 1897, she was a daughter of the late George Allen and Emma Kate Freeze Eyler. Miss Eyler lived most of her life at 153 N. Carroll St., Thurmont, where she was born. In September, 1989, she went to live with her niece in Newark. Miss Eyler was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Thurmont, and was active in church work. She taught Sunday School, was a choir member for more than 50 years and belonged to the Women of the Church. She was in the newspaper business, first with The Catoctin Clarion, then the Catoctin Enterprise, which started publication in 1940. She served as their first news editor, a job she kept for more than 25 years, retiring in 1965. A lover of nature, her hobby was gardening. Surviving are a niece, Jean W. Meredith of Newark; two great-nephews, Walter E. Meredith and George T. Meredith, both of Newark; a great-great-nephew, Michael E. Meredith, and a great-great-niece, Crystal R. Meredith, both of Newark; and a number of cousins. She was the last of her immediate family. On Friday, April 23, Miss Eyler will be at St. John's Lutheran Church, 15 N. Church St., Thurmont, from 9-10 a.m. at which time services will be conducted with her pastor, the Rev. William H. Peacock, Jr., officiating. Interment will be in Weller Cemetery, Thurmont. Contributions may be made to the memorial fund of St. John's Lutheran Church, 15 N. Church St., Thurmont, Md. 21788; or the charity of one's choice. The Thurmont funeral home of Robert E. Dailey and Son is handling arrangements."
