She was born October 16,1909 at the family farm near Almota, Wash. Blanche was the seventh of 12 children born to Samuel and Ida (SOMMERS) Aeschliman. She graduated from Colfax High School in 1927 and from Cheney Normal School in 1929. She taught for six years in one-room country schools in Onecho, Hulen, and Boone -- all near Colfax and Bartlett near the Oregon-Washington border in the Blue Mountains. She also taught for two years in the Odessa schools. She married Alvie SCHRAG on October 2, 1937. They farmed in the Menno area of Adams County until 1972, when they retired to Monroe, Wash. Alvie died there in 1978 and in 1984, Blanche moved to Shoreline to be near her daughters. She moved to Summer Wood in Moses Lake in June of 2003. Blanche was a member of the Menno Mennonite Church and was active in the mission society, Sunday school, and Daily Vacation Bible school. She loved to sew. She made many quilts, and when the grandchildren arrived she became an expert in making stuffed animals. She enjoyed cooking and baking and was known for her chocolate chip cookies and macaroni and cheese. She also enjoyed her flowers and her daily walks. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Alvie, her sisters, Golda Waltner, Hilda Gering, Stella Aeschliman, infant Julia Aeschliman, and Myrtle Johnson, and brothers, Irvin Aeschliman and Arnold Aeschliman. She is survived by: sisters, Frances Aeschliman of Colfax and Flossie McMillen of Hutchinson, Kan.; brothers, Ralph Aeschliman of Brookings, Ore. and Walter Aeschliman of Santa Rosa, Calif.; children, Loren and Rosalie Schrag of Moses Lake, Beth and Dick Stucky of Shoreline, Kay Schrag of Seattle, and Tim and Roberta Schrag of Mattawa; six grandchildren, four step-grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Interment will be at the Menno Mennonite Cemetery on Saturday, March 6, 2004 at 1 p.m., followed by a memorial service at the Menno Church at 1:30 p.m. with Pastor Terry Rediger officiating. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Menno Mennonite Church or the charity of their choice. Danekas Funeral Home in Ritzville is in charge of funeral arrangements. Mrs. Schrag will lie in state at the Danekas Funeral Home on Friday from 1-7 p.m. and again on Saturday morning.
