A joint memorial graveside service and burial of the cremains, for Bob, Ruthie, and Bobs sister, Viva Preston, will be held on Friday, May 27, 2005 at the Phillips Cemetery, Phillips, NE with Pastor James W. Read More	Bob Humrich Sr., 90, of Grand Island, passed away Jan. 7, 2005 at the Grand Island NE Veterans Home. Ruth Ruthie Humrich, 77, passed away, March 22, 1994 at Longview, WA. A joint memorial graveside service and burial of the cremains, for Bob, Ruthie, and Bobs sister, Viva Preston, will be held on Friday, May 27, 2005 at the Phillips Cemetery, Phillips, NE with Pastor James W. Johnson officiating. Kleine Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Bob was born at Aurora, NE on Nov. 22, 1914 to Grant and Olive (Whitaker) Humrich. He attended school in Aurora, and like his dad, he loved horses, dogs, and hunting. When he was a teenager, he traveled to Idaho and worked on ranches. Later he worked work in the Civilian Conservation Corps for a blacksmith and as a cook. Bob was a construction carpenter in the South and worked on the large dam at Sardis, Mississippi. Later he worked in Virginia where he bought his first horse, Rainy Day. He worked at the Hastings Ammunition Plant as a carpenter while the family lived in Aurora. Bob went into the Army in March of 1944 and trained at Ft. Roberts, CA. He then went overseas to join the 16th Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. Bob fought in the Hurtgen Forrest and the Battle of the Bulge during the winter of 1944-45. He was discharged in Aug. 1945 and returned to Aurora, where he bought his first racehorse, Ever Loyal, riding her home bareback. Bob raced and trained horses for many years throughout Nebraska, Colorado, Chicago, and St. Louis. He also raced in Phoenix, AZ until the mid 80s when he and his wife retired. Later they moved to Longview, WA to be close to their daughter, Ruth Ann. After Ruthies death, he moved to Utah where his granddaughter assisted and cared for him in his home. In 2003, Bob moved back to Doniphan to be close to his son. Those left to cherish Bob & Ruthies memory are, son Bob, Jr. and daughter-in-law Linda of Doniphan, daughter Ruth Ann Zeilenga of Longview, WA, eight grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and one great great-grandchild. In addition, Ruthie has three living sisters, Alice, Edith, and Mable. Bob, Sr. and Ruth Amelia were united in marriage Dec. 5, 1938 in Grand Island, NE. They made their home in Aurora for many years. Bob was preceded in death by his wife Ruthie, sisters Viva and Darlene, brothers Glen Pete and Paul Acey. They were also preceded by their daughter-in-law, Sherrill, and granddaughter, Melissa.
