Description	:	Bob Lee Murrell was born to John A. Murrell and Julia A. (McMahon) Murrell on October 27, 1924 in Fairmont. He passed away Sept. 18, 2004 at home in Fairmont. He passed away Sept. 18, 2004 at home in Fairmont. He was one of three children and a half-brother. He also had a twin sister. Bob graduated from Fairmont High School in 1942. At age 18, he was inducted into the Armed Forces serving in the infantry division. He enlisted on April 23, 1943, and was discharged March 21, 1946. He was at one time the most decorated veteran in Fillmore county. Bob was also one of the first 18 year-olds in Fillmore county to be inducted. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge of World War Ii where he was wounded. He earned his Purple Heart when wounded on Feb. 12, 1945. His other medals he earned were French Croix D. Guerre-Distinguished Badge- Croix De Guerre Belgium-American Theater Ribbon-CEAMET Ribbon-Europe, Africa and Mid-East Theater-Victory Ribbon-Good Conduct Medal-Combat Infantry Badge-4 Battle Stars for Battle of the Bulge-Remagan-Rhineland and Ruhrpockt. In 1990, Bob was issued the first Purple Heart license plate in Fillmore County. When Bob returned home to Fairmont, he met Joyce Ernst of Geneva. They were married Sept. 16, 1946. Six children were blessed to this union: Michael Eugene, Patsy Jo, Barbara Kay, Sharon Lea, Robert Dennis and Julie Ann. They resided in Fairmont for their entire married life. Bob always loved Fairmont and never wanted to live anywhere else. Bob was a bricklayer for 40 years. This was a job he really enjoyed. He was very proud of his brickwork. Bob was a member of the American Legion ever since his return from the service. For a time, he also volunteered his services as a fireman in the community. Bob loved his family. He always said he was never rich in money, but very rich in family. He was a quiet man who couldn't always say what he felt, but he was very proud of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, John and Julia; his brothers, Vern and Jack; and a daughter, Patsy Jo. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Joyce; two sons, Michael and wife Judy, Robert and wife, Jina; three daughters, Barbara Scheil and husband Dave, Sharon Slezak and husband, Tom, Julie Dillman and husband, Bob; a son-in-law, Larry Ahrens; 15 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren; a twin sister, Betty Williams, many nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted from the Farmer & Son Funeral Home in Geneva on Sept. 21, with Bob's family officiating the service. Charlotte Bumgarner sang "How Great Thou Art" and "Beyond the Sunset" accompanied by Nancy Jo Galusha. Pallbearers were grandchildren, Terry Murrell, Chris Murrell, Trey Murrell, Ryan Murrell, T.J. Slezak and Danny Ahrens. Honorary pallbearers included Brittany Murrell, Ben Murrell, Chad Murrell, Tammy Nichols, Jeremy Scheil, Michelle Motis, Lisa Nowell, Joan Trollope, and Michael Dillman.
