Bob Randall Johnson was born June 19, 1930, in Sioux City, to Albert and Alta Johnson, who farmed near Allen, Neb. He grew up on the family farm and attended schools there and graduated from Allen Public School. He attended college at Wayne State College in Wayne, Neb. for a short time. He then married Edith Coe in 1949. To this union five children were born, Randall, Peggy, Evan, Darcy, and Toby. Bob and Edith farmed near Allen for many years until their divorce in 1964. Bob moved to Sioux City and obtained employment at Sioux Tools, inc. as a welder. In 1971, he married Janice (Pranschke) Guzman and adopted her two children from a previous marriage, Guy and Glenda. Bob's family was very important to him and he loved spending time with them, especially his grandchildren. He also enjoyed spending time with his friends fishing, boating or playing cards. He was a lover of nature and was a member of the Audubon Society and he and his wife went on many field trips. He enjoyed the winter bird count and also built birdhouses for bluebirds. He loved to travel and most of his vacations were spent in the western states in the mountain areas. He loved Wyoming and Montana, especially the Bear Tooth Mountains in Montana. His dream was to retire to Dubois, Wyo., near the Wind River Mountains, but due to his lengthy illnesses he was unable to do this. His hobbies were gardening and driving short road trips in the Tri-State area. His greatest adventure was his trip to Alaska, where he toured Denali Park and camped and hiked there and even climbed a small mountain near Anchorage. His home was his pride and joy and he spent many happy hours remodeling his home and working in his vegetable and flower garden. In the last few years, he spent many happy hours with his best friend, Oscar Mayer, a miniature piebald Dachshund. He enjoyed watching television and especially liked the Discovery Channel and Animal Planet. Bob was a member of the Springbanks Friends Church in Allen, Neb. and later became a member of Faith Christian Fellowship Church in Sioux City. he held a great love and respect for his pastor the friend, Rev. Bob Rasmussen. He was baptized into the church on Dec. 1, 2001. He enjoyed studying Bible Scriptures at home in Bible classes with the Revs. Russell and Kathie Brown. For eight years, he was cared for at home by his wife, Jan until March 1, 2012, when he took residence at Touchstone Living Center in Sioux City. The last few months at Touchstone, he was cared for in the Hospice Unit at Touchstone. He is survived by his wife, Janice; six children, Randy and wife Jeanne of San Antonio, Texas, Peggy Terry and husband Norris of Allen, Neb., Evan and wife Marilyn of Akron, Iowa, Darcy Heaton of Sioux Falls, S.D., Toby of Fon du Lac, Wis., and Glenda Johnson Vollmer of Arkansas City, Kan.;15 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a sister-in-law, Jeannette Pranschke of Mapleton, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Lucille Malcom, Eleanor Ellis, Clarice Roberts, and Bernita Loney; and his adopted son, Guy Johnson.
