He was preceded in death by his parents, an older brother Sterling, and brother-in-law Ken Hilligas. Survivors of the immediate family include his wife Martha Lee; son Sterling and daughter-in-law Sherry of Sargent, Nebraska; grandson Jesse and wife Jessica of Pocatello, Idaho; grandson Brady of Kearney, Nebraska; son Conard and daughter-in-law Doralea of Sargent, Nebraska; grandson John of Sargent, Nebraska; granddaughter Tanya and husband Chad Stecker of Pineville, Louisiana, great grandchildren Makayla, Liam and Carwyn; granddaughter Tracy and husband Ryan Cone of Arthur, Nebraska, great granddaughter Collins; a sister Ramona Hilligas of Grand Island, Nebraska and many friends and family. His father, grandfather and great grandfather are all buried in the West Union Cemetery, west of Sargent. He received his education and grew to manhood in the Sargent area. He lived and worked during the great depression and the work was very hard. He started working out, hauling bundles to a threshing machine at the age of thirteen, making $.25 a day. In the fall of the year, he and his brother would pick corn by hand for $.03 a bushel. World War II broke out in December 1941. Bobby applied for a job in Washington, D.C. and was accepted. He jumped into his Model A Ford and went back to D.C. where he went to work for the Finance Department. He worked there about a year. He was called to the service in January 1943, where he entered the United States Air Corps. He was discharged in January 1946 in San Pedro, California. He went in to the trucking business with his brother in Nampa, Idaho, but decided that just wasn’t for him so he went to work for the state of Idaho in the road department. Their main job was to survey for new roads, mostly in northern Idaho. He had worked up to instrument man and really enjoyed it. His brother Sterling was killed in their plane. After the funeral in Nebraska, he had every intention of going back to his job but could see his duty was to stay on the farm and held his father. He was a good farmer, but could never put his heart and soul into it. He met and married the love of his life, Martha Lee Huffaker, September 17, 1949. They enjoyed life, doing things together, traveling, gardening and golfing. The highlight of their many travels was the one to the Holy Land. He was a member of the American Legion, Elks and President of the Sargent Rural Fire Department. From www.sandhillsexpress.com
