She was born April 18, 1923, in Putnam County, the daughter of Sherman and Mary (Rohlf) Wade. In 1948, she married Wayne L. Bishop, who died in 2006. She was the first female Marine from Defiance County for World War II and served as a secretary at Tinora Schools for 22 years, retiring in 1985. Read More	Defiance Crescent News Obituary Bonnie A. Bishop, 85, Defiance, Ohio, died Tuesday, March 24, 2009, in her residence. She was born April 18, 1923, in Putnam County, the daughter of Sherman and Mary (Rohlf) Wade. In 1948, she married Wayne L. Bishop, who died in 2006. She was the first female Marine from Defiance County for World War II and served as a secretary at Tinora Schools for 22 years, retiring in 1985. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Jewell American Legion Post 635 and its auxiliary, and the Marine Corps League Herman Hesselschwardt Detachment. She also worked at McKesson Corp. in Toledo, Defiance Veterans Administration, Zeller Corp., General Motors and Gray and White Co. Surviving are three daughters, Mary Bishop of Defiance, Ann Beach of Defiance and Bonnie (David) Etchison, Defiance; grandchildren, Jason (Billie Jo) Etchison, Brian (Leslie) Etchison, Nicholas (Dala) Beach and Kelli Etchison; great-grandchildren, Chloe Nichole Beach and Colt David Etchison; a brother, Dr. Donald Wade, Hardingsburg, Ky.; and three sisters, Hilda Ruck of Defiance, Elnora VanVlerah of Defiance and Helen Straman, Defiance. Also preceding her in death were her parents and a sister, Esther Andrews . Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 28, 2009, in St. John Lutheran Church, Defiance, with Rev. Donald L. Luhring officiating. Burial will be in Poplar Ridge Cemetery, Defiance County, with graveside military rites by Jewell American Legion Post 635 and the Marine Corps League. Visitation is from 2-8 p.m. Friday in Mast-Mock-Hoffman-Hanenkrath-Clevenger-Schaffer Funeral Home and one hour prior to services Saturday at the church. A memorial service will be at 7 p.m. Friday by the Marine Corps League. Preferred memorials are to St. John Lutheran Church or the Poplar Ridge Cemetery restoration project.
