Bishop, 87, Defiance, died at 5:40 p.m. Thursday, May 4, 2006, at Brookview Healthcare Center, Defiance. He was born April 14, 1919, in Defiance, the son of Joseph and Clara (Hornish) Bishop. In 1948, he married Bonnie Wade, who survives. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy. He retired from GM Powertrain in 1981 and also worked for Hornish Brothers as a truck driver. He was a charter member of Jewell American Legion Post 635, a member of UAW Local 211 Retirees, a former member of the Defiance Bass Club and the Defiance Fish and Game Club. He also belonged to the Poplar Ridge Church of the Brethren. Also surviving are three daughters, Mary Bishop, Ann Beach and Mrs. David (Bonnie) Etchinson of Defiance; two sisters, Veda Rittenhouse of Camden, Mich. and Naomi Blosser Otte, Defiance; and four grandchildren. Preceding him in death were two brothers, Charles and Ray, and a sister, Alta Mayle. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Poplar Ridge Church of the Brethren, rural Defiance, with Rev. John Mummert officiating. Burial will be in Poplar Ridge Cemetery with graveside rites by the Jewell American Legion. Visitation is from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. Monday at Mast-Mock-Hoffman Funeral Home and after 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Preferred memorials are to Poplar Ridge Church of the Brethren or to a charity of the donor's choice Services for Wayne L. Bishop were held Tuesday, May 9, 2006, in Poplar Ridge Church of the Brethren with Rev. John Mummert officiating. Burial was in Poplar Ridge Cemetery with military services accorded by Jewell American Legion Post 635 and VFW Post 3360. Music was by Diane Russell and Jack, Chris and Stephanie Blosser. Pallbearers were Jason, Brian and David Etchison, Dale and Barton Rittenhouse, Joe Blosser and John Straman III. Mast-Mock- Hoffman Funeral Home handled arrangements.
