Jeffries, son of William D. and Sofa Jeffries was born near Lancaster, Mo., March 26, 1854. Departed from this life the morning of Dec. 26, 1936, at the age of 82 years and 9 months. Departed from this life the morning of Dec. 26, 1936, at the age of 82 years and 9 months. When eleven years old he was left an orphan and was given a home with his uncle Henry Downing. When sixteen years old, he went to Illinois, where he secured work and stayed a few years. Returning to Lancaster he was married to Mary Elizabeth Foglesong, Feb. 23, 1879. She preceded him in death April 10, 1934. Six children were born to this union, all surviving, namely: Mrs. Cora Werner, Dee, Carl, Arthur, Walter Jeffries all of Lancaster, Claude Jeffries of Kirksville, with nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren to mourn his passing, besides other relatives and friends. Mr. Jeffries spent over 60 years in this community. He was a successful farmer and business man, giving special attention to stock and horse raising. He was always ready to extend a helping hand and his home was a home that will be missed by his family and friends, always giving them of the best he had. Funeral services were conducted at his late home Monday afternoon by Rev. W. T. Andrews and interment was in the I. O. O. F. cemetery.
