Nov, 1891 Brice Leathley brings us a big red beet which Beets the record so far as is known. It measures 33 inches in circumference and weighs 11 3/4 pounds. Dec 18, 1891 Mr Brice Leathley talks of taking a trip to England and France in the spring to visit his birthplace and relatives. He has an offer of $1400 for his farm, but don't expect or wish to sell it. Feb 8, 1912 Bryce Leathley, a leading resident of Jackson Township, died at his home 3 miles south of St Paris last evening at 7:00. His death wad due to Brights Disease and he had been ill for over 2 years but only about 2 weeks ago did he become seriously ill. The death of Mr Leathley follows very closely that of his brother George Leathley whose death occurred but 2 weeks ago. At the time of his brothers death, Bryce was sick and unable to attend his funeral. Bryce Leathley was over 69 years of age having been born in England Nov 15, 1842. He came to the United States when a small boy being but 7 or 8 years old at that time. He has lived in Jackson Township many years where he was best and most widely known. Mr Leathley is survived by his wife to whom he was married 20 years ago. He has been married twice, his first wife having died. His present wife was before her marriage Mrs Tressler and is remembered in Jackson Township as Miss Robbins. Mr Leathley leaves no children. The deceased was a staunch Democrat in politics and took an active interest in the political affairs of his township for many years having been township trustee. He was elected term after term for this office and usually polled many Republican votes as well. Mr Leathley was a member of Honey Creek Baptist Church and belonged to Mt Olivet Lodge F and AM located in Christiansburg. The news of his death was received in this city last evening by WR Talbott who is a nephew of Mrs Leathley. The funeral services will be held Saturday at 10:00 at Honey Creek Baptist Church. The casket will be opened at the home for those who care to view the remains but will not be opened at the church.
