CAUSE OF DEATH Cause of Bridget's death was shown to be "Mitral Regurgetation." {Source: Harrison County, Iowa, Clerk's Record of Deaths, #2672, Page 156} OBITUARY from Dunlap Reporter: "Following several months of illness, Mrs. Bridget Holihan, 69 years old, died at her home in the south part of town last Thursday afternoon, Feb. 19. The funeral service was held Saturday morning, Feb. 21, from St. Patrick's church. Rev. C. J. Portel celebrated requiem mass and gave the last blessing, after which he delivered an inspiring and consoling sermon. Her six grandsons were pallbearers, and tenderly bore the silent remains of their beloved grandmother to her last resting place, in Pleasant Hill cemetery. Bridget Doherty was born in Chicago in 1862. The family moved to Dunlap in 1869, and was among the earliest pioneers here. She was united in marriage to James Holihan in 1887, and to this union five children were born: Mrs. Mayme Madison, Mrs. Julia Weber, Mrs. Nellie Weber, Rosella and John, all of whom survive except John, who died in infancy. Twenty three years of her married life were spent on a farm west of Dunlap. In 1911 the family moved to town, where she spent the remaining years of her life. She was a wonderful mother, a real neighbor, and a kind friend. Besides her husband and four daughters, she leaves to mourn 19 grandchildren, six great grandchildren; two sisters, Mary of Boone and Mrs. H. W. Burke of Randolph, Neb.; and two brothers, Andrew of Boone and Richard of Dunlap. Those from out of town who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. H. W. Burke of Randolph, Neb., Miss Mary Doherty, Raymond Doherty and Cleo McKenon of Boone; Miss Olive Sophy of Omaha; Mrs. Mary Holihan of Silver City; Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Holihan of Deloit; Mr. and Mrs. John Holihan of Arion; Mrs. Margaret Burns of Woodbine; Mrs. Peter Weber of Denison; Mrs. Mortensen, Mrs. Carl Phillipson, and Mrs. Jack O'Connor, Mrs. Marie Madison of Council Bluffs; Mr. and Mrs. Jens Jensen of Soldier; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Madison, Mr. and Mrs. John Jensen, and Mr. and Mrs. John Madison of Ute." Life had been difficult for Bridget. The difficulties endured in Bridget's life are reflected in the following newspaper article that was written at her death: "When she was young the dreams of youth also came to Mrs. Bridget Holihan, lately called to her heavenly reward. Before she reached middle age, many of those dreams perhaps had been wrecked. But others were realized, and there came to her happiness of which she never dreamed as a child. She earned the honor, the respect and the love of all who came in contact with her. As the sun of her life dipped to its setting, vivid dreams came to her, visions of a happier life on a more glorious sphere. Perhaps the certainty she had that those cherished dreams would be realized, more than any- thing had sustained her during her last days upon this earth."
