This is the saddest news we have been called upon to record for several years. On February 7, 1895, Bridget Dignan, daughter of William and Bridget Dignan, of Cleveland township, became the happy bride of George M. Lucas. They settled on the C. M. Barrett farm near the town of Barrett. They had accumulated a small amount of property, and were looking ahead to a happy future. On February 14th a baby boy was born to them, which added to their happiness, but the infant was blessed with a mother's love but short time, for on the Thursday followng the mother was stricken with a fever, and although all that medical skill and kind neighbors could do was done, but without avail, and after a few days of intense suffering the soul of Mrs. Lucas passed over the dark river and is now with her Savior in paradise. Mr. and Mrs. Lucas had a host of friends, and the bereaved husband, father, mother and sisters have the sympathy of the entire community. The funeral occurred on Thursday, February 27th. The remains were followed to the Catholic cemetery on Irish creek, deceased having been a member of that church. The process was as large as the writer ever saw in this vicinity. After the funeral services at the church, conducted by Rev. Father Jennings, of Frankfort, the remains were laid to rest in the Irish creek cemetery. Mr. Lucas being a member of the A. O. U. W. order, the pall bearers were of that fraternity. Mrs. Lucas was born January 10, 1872, died February 26, 1896, aged 24 year, 1 month and 7 days. D. S. ____ Died. At her home near Barrett, Wednesday, February 26, 1896, after an illness of about two weeks, Mrs. George Lucas. The funeral services were held at the Irish Creek Catholic church, at 2 o'clock p. m. Thursday, conducted by Rev. Father Jennings of this parish. Deceased was well known in this part of the county, and the funeral was very largely attended. ____ March 8, 1896: CARD OF THANKS.--I desire to extend my thanks to my friends and neighbors who so kindly assisted me in the care of my wife during her last sickness, and for their sympathy for myself and my babe since the death of my dear companion.
