BRIDGET KILROY Mrs. Bridget Kilroy, who was at the time of her death probably the oldest person living in Meyersdale, passed away after a short illness on Saturday evening, October 12, 1912 at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. A. G. Smith, on Meyers Avenue. She was 88 years of age and had been a resident of Meyersdale for about seven years, having come here with her son-in-law, Mr. A.G. Smith, at the time he became local superintendent of the mines of the Consolidation Coal Company. Her last years were spent in peace and comfort, with her every want supplied by her loving daughter and son-in-law. She was active in body and mind almost up to her last days. In spite of her extreme age, she thought nothing in fair weather of walking from the Smith home to the Catholic Church on the High Street Hill, a walk which is tiresome to many a younger person. Mother Kilroy was a devout Christian and faithful member of the SS. Philip and James Church. Her gentle disposition and motherly kindness won the respect and friendship of all who learned to know her. She is survived by six sons and three daughters, namely: James Kilroy of Keyser, West Virginia; Martin, Michael and Bartley Kilroy of Meyersdale; John, living in the West; Mrs. John Keegan and Mrs. A. G. Smith, of Meyersdale and Mrs. William Middleton of Piedmont, West Virginia. Solemn High Requiem Mass was said for the repose of her soul at SS. Philip and James Church where the funeral was held on Tuesday morning following her death. Reverend J. F. Looney,, of Tyrone, her former pastor, was the celebrant, assisted by Reverend J. J. Brady, her late pastor, deacon, and Reverend Father Quinn of Wes Salisbury, sub-deacon. The funeral sermon was preached by Father Brady who paid a beautiful tribute to the deceased and drew a consoling lesson from the example of her well spent life. The obsequies were attended by numerous mourning relatives and friends. There were beautiful floral offerings. The remains were accompanied by the bereaved relatives and Father Brady to Westernport, Maryland, where further funeral services were held and interment made in the Catholic Cemetery at that place.
