Read More	Mrs. Brita Hagglund, nee Johnson, was born March 20, 1833 in Hille, parish Gesbrichland, Gavleborg, Sweden and died July 15, 1920 at the home of her son, John Hagglund, where she had gone to visit a little over a week before. For many years she had made her home at the old home place, now occupied by Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Falk. Mrs. Falk being her youngest daughter Her’s had been a busy and eventful life. She was a great home woman, above all she loved her children and was always happy to be with them. She early accepted Christ at her Savior and had long been waiting for her Master’s call. And while the children and grandchildren will miss her, yet they will not wish her back, for she was ride for the heavenly harvest. Mrs. Hagglund was born near that great shipping post, Gifle, Sweden. In 1852, at the age of 19 years, she with her parents and two sisters, emigrated to America. An only brother had gone a few years before, but had died before this. Arriving in New York City, Mrs. Hagglund, or Miss Johnson as she was then, decided to not go any further. The parents and two sisters went on to Andover, Illinois. Mrs Hagglund worked in New oak one year and then she married a sailor, Eric Hagglund, who no doubt had induced her to stop at New York in the first place, and then she again sailed across the Atlantic to her old home town, Gifle, Sweden, which was Mr. Hagglund’s shipping port. Here she lived for fifteen years. Mr. Hagglund roamed the seas all around the world and only got home when his ship made the home port. It took a brave woman to be a sailor’s wife those days, as some times there would be over a year with any news from her sailor husband. During those fifteen years, four children were born to them. The oldest died in infancy. The other three, Mrs. Olaf Issacson of Stanton, Emil of Red Oak, and Lenus of Essex are still living. On August of 1867 Eric Hagglund and his family decided to come to America to stay. So after a long ocean voyage and a tedious train rain from new York, they arrived at Andover, Illinois, where the parents were living and also the two sisters who had married and were now, Mrs. John Quist and Mrs. Charles Landen as the older Essex people will remember them At Andover the subject of this sketch lived a little over eight years. Here two children, John and Carrie (Mrs. A. J. Falk) were born. Here they owned a little farm, but Mr. Hagglund having been a seafaring man for twenty six years hated to give up his old work, so during the first three years he rented a farm and sailed on the Great Lakes between Buffalo and Chicago during the summer. After farming for five years, they sold out and moved to Essex, Iowa, on the farm now A. J. Falk, in the year of 1876. Here Mrs. Hagglund had made her home except for four years that she lived in Essex. Her husband died in 1882, and was during in the Essex Cemetery. After 38 years of widowhood, she will now be buried beside him. She is survived by one sister, Mrs. John Quist, five children, 22 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. She has been a member of the Lutheran Church since its organization, being one of the charter members. The funeral was held at the Lutheran Church Sunday afternoon at 3 o’clock, conducted by Dr. J.
