Read More	B. C. JACOBSEN IS LAID TO REST_____ Rites for Broder C. Jacobsen, Former Resident,Were Held Here on Tuesday Afternoon. Broder Carsten Jacobsen, an old time resident of Charter Oak passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Ida Doidge in Sioux City, Monday morning, July 21. Mr. Jacobsen has been well known in Charter Oak having lived here from 1872 until 1928. During that time he was engaged in the buying and shipping of livestock, where he earned the reputation as a "square shooter" and a great business man. He was a friend to all, living up to his name, Broder, which means brother in German. Mr. Jacobsen was the last of five of the pioneer settlers of Charter Oak who were born in the year 1848. He was the youngest. The four who preceded him in death were George Schelm, Franz Reetz, Hans Henrichsen and Franz Riedesel. Broder Carsten Jacobsen was born in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany on February 14th, 1848* and passed away in Sioux City at the age of 87 years, 6 months and 7 days. He came to America when 24 years old and landed at Clinton, Iowa, from there he moved to Denison, Ia., where he farmed for a number of years then moving to Charter Oak where he continued farming until he moved to town where he engaged in the buying and shipping of live stock and followed this occupation there for 36 years. In 1928 he moved to Sioux City and made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Ida Dodge* where he passed away on Sunday morning at 9:00 on July 21st, 1935. He leaves to mourn his death his six children and 10 grandchildren. His children are: Three daughters, Mrs. Freda Mills, Mrs. Anna Coe and Mrs. Ida Doidge, all of Sioux City and three sons, Jake of Colome, South Dakota and Emil and Broder of Danbury, Iowa. His wife preceded him in death 8 years ago, three children have also preceded him in death. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Methodist church with the Rev. W. F. Lane officiating. Burial was in the Lutheran cemetery. Pall bearers were Marshall Jones, John Reese, John Grabow, Emil Timm, Ed Glau and Paul Fiene.
