McKean, 85, of Pinehurst, announce his sudden passing on June 30, 2007. Born on May 28, 1922, in West Northfield, he was a son of the late Gertrude (Bruhm) and Ralph McKean, Pinehurst. He was a member and elder of New West Pine United Church, Pinehurst, and the last founding member of the Northfield & District Fire Department, past President of the Lunenburg County Christmas Tree Producers Association and past member of the Lunenburg Balsam Fir Co-op. He was a member of the Rosedale New Horizons Seniors Club, New Germany. He retired in 1985 from his trucking business and continued an active interest in Christmas trees until his passing. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Margaret Altena (Varner) McKean; daughter, Sandra (Edward) Walters, Wentzell Lake; son, Brian (Wendy) McKean, Lower Sackville; grandchildren, Karen Walters (Jimmy) , Bridgewater, and Trevor (Rhonda) Walters, Upper Northfield; Kye Glenham, Lower Sackville, and four great-grandchildren; brother, Eugene McKean, Pinehurst; sisters, Irene Holdright, Bridgewater; Betty Spicer, Kingston, Ont., and Joanne Chiasson, Wentzell Lake; aunt, Nellie Veinot, New Germany, and special brother-in-law, Lloyd Varner, Sackville, N.B., as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Douglas McKean. There will be no visitation by his request. A memorial service will be held today at 2 p.m. in New West Pine United Church, Rev. Joan Conrad officiating. Private family interment will follow in Pinehurst Community Cemetery. Family flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to New West Pine United Church or Pinehurst Community Cemetery. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Sweeny's Funeral Home, New Germany, 4895 Route 10, New Germany.
