He attended school at Westphalia and moved to Defiance as a young man, where he was employed and engaged in various businesses. He was owner of the Defiance Hardware at the time of his death. Read More	From The Harlan News Advertiser (Harlan, Iowa) – Monday 15 Feb 1965 LIFE STORY OF BRUNO GOESER – 59 Bruno John Goeser was born at Westphalia, Iowa, May 23, 1905, the son of Peter Goeser and Theresa Schulte Goeser. He attended school at Westphalia and moved to Defiance as a young man, where he was employed and engaged in various businesses. He was owner of the Defiance Hardware at the time of his death. October 16, 1929, he married Mildred Weiland at St. Peter's Church at Defiance. Ten children were born of this union. He was a member of St. Peter' Church and the Holy Name Society of his parish. Bruno died January 18, 1965 at Myrtue Memorial Hospital, Harlan, at the age of 59 years, seven months and 25 days after an illness of three months. Survivors include his wife and sons, Edward, John, Larry and Paul living at home, Francis, Council Bluffs, Leo of Harlan, and James of Defiance. Daughters, Mary and Alice of Omaha, and Theresa, Mrs. Larry Fedewa of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; eight grandchildren and two brothers, Frank Goeser and Zeno Geoser both of Defiance. Preceding him in death besides his parents were brothers Hubert and Alvin. Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. January 20, 1965. Requiem High Mass was celebrated by Rev. Fr. Gerald Deere, Pallbearers were Earl Powers, R. G. Rewerts, Donald Kloewer, Jerry Bieker, Joe Bogler and Charles Theulen. - - - - - - - - - - 1882~1982 Defiance (Iowa) Century Review: BRUNO GOESER Bruno Goeser was born May 23, 1905 at Westphalia to Peter Goeser, born July 18, 1874 at Johnsburg, Wisconsin, and Theresa Schulte, born October 15, 1876 at Westphalia, Germany. Also born to this union were Frank, Hubert, Alvin and Zeno. His widowed mother came to Defiance in the early 1900s. After finishing high school Bruno went to Sweeney Auto School for Auto Mechanics in Kansas City, Missouri. He married Mildred Weiland October 16, 1929, at Defiance. Mildred is the daughter of Jacob Weiland, born February 28, 1871 in Ossian, Iowa, and Catherine Kuhl, born January 8, 1872 in Mills County, Iowa. Also born to this union were Martha, Irene, Marcus, Emeran and Lenora. Mildred was a country school teacher and a homemaker. Bruno was a store clerk and auto salesman. He had his own car dealership and in later years ran a hardware store. Bruno and Mildred are parents of Edward, Francis, Leo, John, Mary, Theresa, Alice, Jim, Lawrence and Paul. Bruno was top Chevrolet Dealer in area sales in 1928. He was town councilman for several years. He was a longtime hardware dealer from 1939 to his death in 1965. In his hardware store he also featured army supplies, shoes, and clothing, drawing customers from a large area.
