Burdette Menge Loses Life In Saving Companion Greeley. la.—Special: Burdette Menge, 15, son of Mrs. Roy Menge, was drowned Sunday evening in Elk Creek, north of Greeley, when he went to the rescue of Burton Kruger, 14, who had stepped into a deep hole. According to Kruger and Harold Brady, another companion, Menge was unable to save himself after he had pulled Kruger to safety. The three boys were novices at swimming. Kruger is the son of Ban Kruger, of Edgewood, and Brady the son of Fred Brady, also of Edgewood. Menge's body was recovered and was taken to the Rhines Mortuary at Edgewood. Surviving him are his mother and the following brothers and sisters: Raymond, Norma, George, Mary Jane, Louis, and Annabelle. His father, a veteran of World War I, died several years ago. The Rev. J. J. Snyder, pastor of the Greeley Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be at Edgewood. The youth drowned Sunday evening when he rescued a companion, Burton Kruger, 14, while they were swimming in Elk Creek, north of Greeley. He was born in February, 1929, at Greeley, and was a pupil in the Greeley Consolidated School. His father, Roy Menge, a veteran of World War I, died two years ago. He is survived by his mother; three sisters, Norma, Mary Jane, and Anna Belle, and four brothers, Raymond, Marvin, George, and Louis.
