Burleigh officiating. Interment was made in the Greenwood Cemetery. A suitable obituary, telling of the many things in which the deceased was interested and of the history of his life as is fitted into the march of the events of the county and the nation, would require many columns and we feel unable to properly write of his career. The obituary as read at the funeral is as follows: Burton A. Billings, son of Sanford and Caroline Billings, was born in Saint Lawrence County New York, Dec. 2, 1844, and died in Marshalltown, Iowa, October 7, 1914. His parents moved to Pecatonica, Illinois in 1853 in 1854 to Bradford, Iowa. He was educated in Bradford Academy and Grinnell College. He began the study of law in the office of A. G. Case in Bradford and was admitted to the bar about 1870. He practiced law until recent years in Chickasaw County and northeastern Iowa. While in college at Grinnell, he enlisted in Company B 46 Iowa Infantry, May 1864 and became a member of the George W. S. Dodge Post in 1885. During the pastorate of Rev. A. H. Sedgwick, Mr. Billings united with the congregational church of Nashua. He was married to Mrs. Emma Weber in 1898, his wife died 10 years later.
