Jenness, 89, of Cherokee, passed away Jan. 25, 2007, surrounded by his family at a Sioux City hospital, following a fall at his home. Buster was born Oct. 28, 1917, at Quimby, Iowa, to George W. and Eva Margaret (Athey) Jenness. Services were Jan. 29, 2007, at Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, with the Rev. Ray Hampton officiating. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery at Cherokee, with military rites by American Legion F.I. Goodburn Post 517 of Marcus, Iowa, and Veterans of Foreign Wars L.A. Wescott Post 2253 of Cherokee. He attended Quimby Schools. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army from April 1941 until June 1945. During the war he served in Algers, French Morocco, Naples-Foggia, Rome-Arno and Po Valley campaigns. He was awarded the American Theater Campaign Ribbon, American Defense Service Ribbon, European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon and six overseas bars. He was married to Dorothy Bugh on Aug. 2, 1946, at Storm Lake, Iowa. Buster had farmed for several years, worked for the city of Marcus and Community Co-op Oil in Marcus, retiring in December 1979. He was affiliated with St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Cherokee. He was a 61-year member of F.I. Goodburn Post of the American Legion in Marcus and a member of L.A. Wescott Post 2253 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Cherokee. He also belonged to the Cleghorn Senior Citizens. He had been a resident of Cherokee since August 1979 and prior to this had lived in Marcus for many years. Buster enjoyed fishing, woodworking, gardening, playing cards, drinking coffee with his buddies and especially loved the time he spent with his family. He is survived by his wife Dorothy; five children, Tom and Jean Jenness of Cherokee, Alan and JoAnne Jenness of Moville, Iowa, Margaret Ann and Louis Corzilius of Cherokee, Sandy and Chuck Stubbe of Cherokee, and Brian and Joanne Jenness of Marcus; 13 grandchildren and their families, Julie Marshall (Shanna and Brienna Ewoldt), Marty and Dawn Jenness (Jena and Jonathan), Alicia Jenness (Emma), Michele and Chris Poeckes, Kyle Jenness, Kristen and Jason Weiland (Kacie and Madison), Linda and Mike Mummert (Simon and Hanna), Matthew Stubbe, Kayla Stubbe, Kimberly and Tony Ross, Michael Jenness, Kelli and Kyle Blankenburg (Zoe), Sarah Jenness (Carter Jenness) and Sarah's special friend, Chad Oats; a sister, Florence Jones of Eldora, Iowa; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Carl, Henry, Richard and Paul Jenness; and two sisters, Dorothy Wilson and Laura Jenness.
