Description	:	Smithville resident and DeKalb County native Buster Levi Goff, 82, passed from life on September 25 at Stones River DeKalb Community Hospital in Nashville. He served in World War II, entering the U.S. Navy in 1942. He was a gunner?s mate in combat in the Pacific Theater from 1943-45 aboard the destroyer USS Osumus and Oiler USS Elkhorn. He was awarded the American Campaign Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Medal with two bronze stars, the World War II Victory Medal and was honorably discharged in 1946. He lived in Detroit, Michigan, Putnam and DeKalb counties and enjoyed fishing. The son of the... The son of the late Mack and Rachael Ovella Lafever Goff, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, General Oscar Harris; sisters, Beatrice Hickey, Gladys Strickland and Margie Christine Herron; brothers, Bobby, Hugh, David, Bedford, Wilburn and Beech Goff and niece, Debra Ann Dyer. Services will be held today at Cookeville Funeral Home Chapel with interment following at Goff Cemetery with full military honors. Cookeville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. .
