Ballantyne, Sr. 65, 1207 Norfolk Ave. prominent Norfolk businessman, died after a linger illness at 1:53 p.m. Sunday in a Norfolk hospital where he had been a patient since Feb. 13. Funeral services will be conducted at 9 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Church by Msgr. Robert P. Burns, pastor. The rosary will be recited at 8:30 Monday and Tuesday at the Home for Funerals, where the body will lie in state from 3 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. Mr. Ballantyne was born Oct. 5, 1894, at Osmond, the son of Mr. and Mrs. John A. Ballantyne, Sr. The family moved in 1900 to Norfolk, where Mr. Ballantyne was graduated from Norfolk High School and spent the remainder of his life. He served in the U. S. Army in World War I. After the war in 1919, he became associated with his father and brother, John A. Ballantyne, Jr., in the Ballantyne Furniture Co., which was established in 1913. He was married to Miss Dorothy Brown of Norfolk Jan., 19, 1931. They were the parents of two sons. Mr. Ballantyne was a member of the Kiwanis Club, Elks Lodge, vice president and director of the Norfolk Building and Loan Assn, and associated with the Greater Norfolk Corp. He is survived by his wife; two sons, John and Byron Jr., who were associated with him in the Ballantyne Furniture Co.; two grandsons, two granddaughters; one sister, Mrs. Bernice Warner of Norfolk, and three brothers, John A. Ballantyne, Jr., of Norfolk, Robert Ballantyne of Omaha, and Dr. George Ballantyne of Worcester, Mass. Source: "The Norfolk Daily News: Monday, April 11, 1960 on page 1. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday morning at Sacred Heart Church by Msgr. Robert P. Burns, pastor. The requiem mass was sung by the Sacred Heart School choir. Burial was in Prospect Hill Cemetery with the following serving as active pallbearers: Harry Johnson, F. M. Deutsch, M. B. Olsen, George Gerlecz and Ross Gary, all of Norfolk, and George Wright, Elgin. Honorary pallbearers were A. T. Hutchinson, Dr. A. C. Barry, Andrew Mapes, Don Bridge, dewey Jewell, DAve Powell, Guy B. Stinson and C. A. Durland, Norfolk Building and Loan Assn., directors; Leonard Ross and Clyde Cochran. Mr. Ballantyne was vice president and director of the Norfolk Building and Loan Assn,, at the time of his death. He became associated with his father and brother, John A.
