Description	:	Calib Blocher, who had been suffering from a kick of a horse, died last Friday about ten o'clock. It will be remembered that he received a kick from his horse several weeks ago while at work on his farm north of town. He so far recovered that he was able to be out. Later he took down again with an abscess, resulting from the kick. He was taken to his mother's place and passed through a trying ordeal of suffering. Read More	Calib Blocher, who had been suffering from a kick of a horse, died last Friday about ten o'clock. It will be remembered that he received a kick from his horse several weeks ago while at work on his farm north of town. He so far recovered that he was able to be out. Later he took down again with an abscess, resulting from the kick. He was taken to his mother's place and passed through a trying ordeal of suffering. He grew rapidly worse until Wednesday of last week, when a surgical operation was performed by Dr Jones of Lawrence, assisted by Dr Hampshire. There was only a faint hope that this might give relief and prolong life. He continued to grow worse until he died. As some members of the family were a considerable distance from home, it was desirable that the interment be postponed until Sunday. Accordingly undertaker Frank Erost went out and embalmed the body about four hours after death had taken place. The embalming was so perfectly and thoroughly done that the body was kept in excellent condition for burial on Sunday. Mr Blocher was a little less than thirty years old, and was the first out of a family of eight children to depart this life. He was a good son, an excellent neighbor, and a worthy citizen. The esteem in which he was held was well attested by the large concourse of people that attended his funeral service. The services were held in the Methodist Church, many of the people being unable to get into the Church. The interment took place in Overbrook cemetery. Unknown newspaper, Aug 12, 1898
