Description	:	Custer County Historical Society: 8/1999 Calvin Adkins was born at Montecello, Kentucky, on June 1, 1858. ( Other sources believe he was born in DeKalb Co., Alabama and that his parents were there shortly after 1846 when his father Morris sold the land in Wayne Co., Kentucky, 1st Oct 1846,) In 1862, he moved , with his parents to Alabama state, living there for 21 years. On March 15, 1875, he was united in marriage to Miss. Mary Steele. To this union, seven children, four girls and 3 boys, were born. ( Wyatt, Nancy, Mildred, Benjamin, Grover C., LaVerna, and Mary). In 1883, they moved to Iowa state, where they resided until 1886, when they came to Custer Co., Nebraska, and homesteaded on a land claim south west of Anselmo, Nebraska. In 1891, his wife died, and he and his family moved back to Alabama in 1895. In 1915, he was united in marriage again, this time to Miss Verga Pierson. In 1928, he came to Scottsbluff, Nebraska, where he lived with his daughter, Mrs. Lon Dishman ( LaVerna Adkins), until his death, in June 1931. He is survived by seven children, 29 grandchildren and by 17 great grandchildren. The body was returned to Anselmo, Nebraska by Burlington Train No. 42, where funeral services were by Rev. Heater conducted at the local Christian Church, and burial made by side of first wife in Fairview Cemetery, ( Grand View Cemetery, northwest of Anselmo.) Mr. and Mrs. Lon Dishman and also his present wife, of Scottsbluff, came here with the body for the funeral services and burial.
