Description	:	Calvin (Jim) James Preheim was born on the family homestead southeast of Freeman, South Dakota on April 17, 1932 to Henry J. and Ella (Heckenliable) Preheim. Calvin passed away peacefully on December 23, 2014 at Freeman Hospital, surrounded by his family, from health complications. Jim, as he was called by many, attended country school district #93 for eight years and graduated from Freeman Academy in 1950. Read More	Calvin (Jim) James Preheim was born on the family homestead southeast of Freeman, South Dakota on April 17, 1932 to Henry J. and Ella (Heckenliable) Preheim. Calvin passed away peacefully on December 23, 2014 at Freeman Hospital, surrounded by his family, from health complications. Jim, as he was called by many, attended country school district #93 for eight years and graduated from Freeman Academy in 1950. He was baptized upon his confession of faith in Jesus Christ and was a member of the Salem Mennonite Church of Freeman, South Dakota, where he served as usher for several years. In 1953 Jim was drafted into the United States Armed Forces. He was trained as a medic and served in a quartermaster unit in Korea for two years. He was united in marriage to Dorothy Hofer on June 5, 1956. To this union three children were born---Jill, Ross, and Todd. After farming for several years, Jim and his family began repairing and refinishing old furniture. Later, Jim and Dorothy opened Country Antiques on their farm, where they sold antiques and collectables. After selling the antique shop, Jim worked for a short time at Fensel’s Greenhouse and Coast to Coast Hardware. Jim purchased a sawmill and started Hardwood Sales where he cut, dried, and planed lumber for sale to woodworkers. Jim was an accomplished woodworker and made many useful and interesting wood items for friends and family. Jim retired in 1999 and enjoyed fishing with Dorothy. In 2007, Jim and Dorothy moved to on apartment in Freeman. Jim is survived by his wife, Dorothy A. Preheim; his children, Jill Zerger and her husband, Dick of Moundridge, KS; Ross Preheim of Minneapolis, MN; and Todd Preheim and his wife, Carmen of Tea, SD; five grandchildren, Melinda Graber, Micah Graber, Jessica Preheim, Ashley Preheim, and Daniel Preheim; two step-granddaughters, Katrina Zerger and Arielle Zerger; sister, Bernice Kramer; sister-in-law, Sarah Holsey and her husband Glen; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Matthew Graber; sister, Verona Rock; and brother-in-laws, Glen Kramer and Robert Rock.
