Born in Crouse's Settlement, he was a son of the late John W. and Ida May (Zinck) Crouse. He was a master mariner for 50 years, fishing out of Riverport. He worked at Continental Sea Foods Ltd., Shelburne and Ritcey Brothers Ltd., Riverport, until retiring. He was a member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, Rose Bay, serving on the church council for 40 years. He served with the Merchant Marine during the Second World War. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 23, Lunenburg; the Unity Masonic Lodge 4, Lunenburg; Riverview Rebekah Lodge 56, Riverport; Swastika Cantons, Lunenburg Branch. He was a past Noble Grand of Confidence Lodge 106 of the IOOF, Riverport, past Grand Patriarch of Lunenburg Encampment and honourary member of Riverport Board of Trade. In 1988 he was a local WAY's award winner and received a certificate from the Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia for exceptional volunteer service. He is survived by his wife, the former Marion Lohnes; a son, Rodney, Riverport; three sisters, Mrs. Hilda Butcher, Weston, Mass.; Mrs. Marjorie Radford, Surrey, B.C.; Mrs. Alice Fraser, Martin's Brook; four brothers, Douglas, Riverport; Philip, Oakhill; John, Centre; Clarence, Bayport; two grandchildren. He was predeceased by two sisters, Florence, Agnes; three brothers, Donald, Albert, Everett; two infant brothers. The body is in Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, Lunenburg, visiting 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today. Funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday in St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, Rose Bay, Rev. Joe Williams officiating. Burial in Shepherd's Hill Cemetery, Riverport. Donations to St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, Rose Bay, the Fishermen's Memorial Hospital, or any charity. With thanks to Rosemary Rafuse.
