Read More	Douglas Aeriel Crouse Halifax Herald 8/22/2008 CROUSE, Douglas Aeriel - It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Douglas Aeriel Crouse, 89, of Riverport at Cookvilla, Cookville, on Wednesday, August 20, 2008. Born in Crouse's Settlement, he was a son of the late John and Ida Mae (Zinc) Crouse. Doug went to sea at an early age fishing out of dories and went on to serve with the Merchant Navy during the Second World War. After the war, all of his working life was as a rigger with Atlantic Shipbuilding. Within the community, Doug took a great interest in the I.O.O.F. Hall in Riverport as caretaker and co-ordinator of the many activities and events held there. He was an active member of the I.O.O.F. Confidence Lodge No. 106, Riverport, where he received his 60 year Jewel and was a "Past Grand". Doug was a member for over 23 years of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No. 23, Lunenburg. A faithful and dedicated member of Trinity United Church, Rose Bay, he served as a Life Member on the Session, was a past member on the board of Trustees and volunteered his time and talents when needed at the church. Doug loved life, people, and a good story and in later years, daily gathered at the local store with other men in the community for "coffee time". Relaxing in the sun, playing cards, especially crib and attending church suppers were favourite pastime. His love of family was evident in the time shared with them. He took great interest in their lives and accomplishments, offering support and encouragement. Doug is survived by his daughters, Margo (Sidney), Riverport; Maureen Carswell (Bill MacKinnon), Sackville; daughter-in-law, Ellen (Bruce) MacCarthy, Midville Branch; sisters, Hilda Butcher, Weston, Mass.; Marjorie (George) Radford, Surrey, B.C.; Alice Fraser, Martins Brook; brother, Philip (Agnes), Dayspring; grandchildren, Andrea (Victor) Whalen, Clementsport; Jeffrey Crouse, Midville Branch; Amanda, Winnipeg, and Erica (Derek MacKinnon), Annapolis Valley; great-grandsons, Andrew and Madison; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Isabel; son, Andrew; infant daughter, Judy; sisters, Florence and Agnes; brothers, Donald, Albert, Everett, Amos, John, Clarence, and two infant brothers. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Highway 3, Lunenburg where visitation will be held Saturday from 7-9 p.m. and where a Masonic Lodge service will be held at 6:30 p.m. and Legion service to follow at 6:45 p.m. on Saturday. Funeral service to celebrate Doug's life will be held at Trinity United Church, Rose Bay, on Sunday at 2 p.m., Rev. Ron Frampton officiating. Interment at Lower LaHave Cemetery.
