K, 8th VA Infantry, CSA, 21 JUL 1861. He was promoted to Capt., 2 DEC 1862. He was shot in both legs during PICKETT's Charge at Gettysburg, PA, 3 JUL 1863, and then was captured. Entered VMI Aug. 4, 1860; Resigned May 28, 1861 when he was ordered to Camp Mason; Later made Honorary Graduate of the Class of 1864 (This was common practice for cadets who had dropped out to serve in the War).
