Description	:	George Weirick, age 88 of Colfax, died Friday at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 17, 2006 at First United Methodist Church in Colfax at 2 p.m. Burial will be at Colfax Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church on Monday, January 16, 2006 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Memorials may be given to the First United Methodist Church of Colfax or the Colfax Historical Society. Online condolences for the family may be sent to www.coburnfuneralhomes.com The son of George & Nelle (Turner) Weirick, George was born on March 30, 1917 in Colfax. He graduated from Colfax High School in 1935 and then moved on to Iowa State where he graduated in 1939 with a degree in general engineering. After deciding not to enter the engineering profession, George went back to school and graduated in 1942 from the University of Iowa with B.S. for Pharmacy. On July 23, 1950, George was united in marriage to Betty Lou Berger at Nebraska City, Nebraska. George was also a World War II veteran. While in the war, George was a Captain of the Army Air Corp and also served as a meteorologist in the South Pacific. George spent 60 years of his life as a pharmacist. For 17 of those years he was a pharmacist at Nollen Drug in Newton. The rest of his years were spent in Colfax where he ran Weirick & Patterson Pharmacy. George was a member of the Colfax school board and was also a member on the First United Methodist Church. Those left to honor his memory are his wife, Betty Weirick of Colfax, his children, Barbara (Ron) Heideman of Indianola, Iowa, Beth (Earl) Humphreys of Excelsior Springs, Missouri, Belinda (Kevin) Williams of Gladbrook, Iowa, and Brenda Weirick and her fiancé Randall Pierce of Colfax. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren, 2 geat-grandchildren, and one sister, Miriam (James) Crawford of Atlanta, Georgia.
