CLELL DIZE BURIED MONDAY Aged Resident Had Been Ill Several Months One of Crisfield's fine old gentlemen, Capt. John McClellan Dize, died at his home on Chesapeake Avenue last Saturday morning at the age of 84 years. He had been confined to his home with illness since last fall, and grew worse gradually, until the end came. He was the son of the late John W. and Margaret Dize of Smiths Island. Capt. Clell was one of the best known citizens of the community. He was a waterman in his younger days, and in later years he repaired and painted boats, knitted bags for crab and oyster scrapes, and back of his workshop on the waterfront he had a small plot in which he raise early spring vegetables, using sea grass as a mulch and to build up the land. With fine old fashioned courtesy he presented gifts of fresh vegetables to neighbors and friends, and being a great lover of flowers, especially roses, of which he raised many, he also would take bouquets of them to the sick and also to many friends, during the summer. He was a Christian of the type who practiced the tenets of Christianity in his daily life. Gentle, unassuming, he performed deeds of kindness repeatedly , which endeared him to the hearts of those he helped, and there was no time , day or night, but that he would be helpful in any way he could and consider it a privilege to be of help. For many years he was a member of Immanuel Methodist church and attended its services regularly and was liberal in its support.
