Powers, 82 of 251 Stanton Dr. died Sunday evening at the Assumption Nursing Home in North Lima where he had been a patient since March. Mr. Powers was born July 16, 1919 at Negley to the late Mary Olive Booth and Frank Irwin Powers and moved to the Columbiana area in 1952. Powers, 82 of 251 Stanton Dr. died Sunday evening at the Assumption Nursing Home in North Lima where he had been a patient since March. Mr. Powers was born July 16, 1919 at Negley to the late Mary Olive Booth and Frank Irwin Powers and moved to the Columbiana area in 1952. He graduated from East Palestine High School in 1936 and earned a bachelors of science degree in engineering from Ohio State University in 1947. He entered the Army during World War II, on March 1, 1943. He served as a captain in the 687 Engineer Battalion in both the European and Pacific theaters. He returned to Ohio State to obtain his degree in engineering in 1947. He would was discharged from the Army on April 1, 1953. Mr. Hours was employed by the Salem Engineering Company from 1947 until 1952. He was a sales engineer, manager of marketing, and purchasing agent for L. W. Nash Co. of East Palestine, moving to Charlotte, North Carolina in 1980. When Alcoa purchased Nash, he returned to this area where he retired in 1983. He later went to work for Alexiff Snyder Enterprises of Cleveland, retiring in 1998 He was a member of the First United Methodist Church where he served as Sunday School superintendent and the Men’s Sunday School teacher and also served on several boards of the church. He was a member of the Columbiana Board of Education for eight years, serving as president on two occasions. He also served on the Columbiana parse board and as president of the Columbiana Qantas club. He was a member of the Columbiana/Fairfield Historical Society, Friends of the Library, the Columbiana Chapter 428 order of Eastern Star, East Palestine Lodge 417 F.& A.M., Benjamin Firestone Post 290 American Legion, and the Salem Golf Club. His first wife, Elizabeth Lipp Powers, whom he married May 7, 1942, died March 1, 1944. Survivors include his wife, Doris Ward Powers, whom he married June 28, 1947; three daughters, Mrs. Michael (Valerie) Mayo Colonial Beach, Va, Roberta Harrison of Sebring, Florida, Mrs. Rodney (Judith) Long of Charlotte, N.C., a son James Powers of Rehoboth Beach, Del; four grandchildren Stephen Powers of Rehoboth Beach, Del., Mrs. Jeremy (Dana) Powers of Tolony, Ill., Robert Harrison and Valerie Harrison, both of Sebring Florida; and two great-grandchildren. Mr. Powers was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Powers; and a brother, Edward W. Powers. Services will be held at 11 AM Thursday at the Warwick Kummer Funeral Home with Rev. Stephen K. Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Columbiana Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the Benjamin Firestone Post of the American Legion. Friends may call from 6 - 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to memorial fund of the First United Methodist Church, Columbiana County Mental Health and Recovery Services, or the Columbiana Public Library. Obituary from R. D.
