SIDNEY LANDON CLAIMED BY DEATH Aged Man Had Been Ill Several Months One of the community's oldest and highly respected citizens, Capt. Sidney W. Landon, died at his home on Chesapeake Avenue Wednesday morning of last week, after an illness of several months, at the age of 84 years. He was the son of the late John and Nancy Landon, members of families who were among the early settlers in the community, and who have been active in its affairs for generations. Capt. Landon had been engaged in the seafod business for most of his life, until illness some years ago compelled him to retire from that business. He was a well known and familiar figure on the streets, and had a host of friends who enjoyed his companionship, and who are deeply grieved at his passing. His body rested at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Emma Sterling, on Chesapeake Avenue until Friday when funeral services were held in Immanuel Methodist church, conducted by his pastor, Rev. Melvin E. Wheatley, assisted by Rev. J. N. Triplett. Interment was in the family plot in the Crisfield cemetery. Bearers were Billy Landon, Sidney 0. Landon, Lorenzo Landon, Harry Landon and Charles Landon. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Minnie Landon. five daughters, Mrs. Ethel Muir, Mrs. Mabel Sterling, Mrs. Annabelle Hall, Mrs. Emma Sterling, and Mrs. Norma Gavel, and three sons, Ralph, Elmer and Norris Landon. A sister, Mrs. Ella Betts, of Hampton, Va., seventeen grandchildren and one greatgrandchild also survive. The Crisfield Times, December 6, 1946 pg.1
