Born Dec., 1, 1897, in the Ebenezer neighborhood near Rochester, he was the eldest son of Elmer M. and Effie BLACKETOR NEWCOMB. His marriage was June 1, 1923, at the south farm near Rochester to Mary Alice LOWE, who survives. Mr. Newcomb was a member of the First Baptist church, where he took an active part in the new church building program. He also was a charter member and past director of the Chamber of Commerce, belonged to the Royal Arch Masons, Masonic lodge No. 79, Scottish Rite Valley of South Bend, Rochester I.O.O.F. lodge, and was past president of the Indiana Salebarn Association. Also surviving are two daughtrs, Mrs. Joanne BENDALL, Rochester, and Mrs. Roger (Marcia) SMITH, Eureka, Ill.; five granddaughters, JoEllen BENDALL, Cindy, Lynne, Peggy and Kathryn SMITH; a sister, Mrs. Paul (Betty) MYERS, Fullerton, CaL; a brother, James G. NEWCOMB, Rochester, and nieces and nephews. Preceding in death were two brothers, Leonard and Floyd [NEWCOMB]. Last rites will be Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Zimmerman Brothers funeral home with the Rev. Donald LAMBERT officiating. Burial will be in the family plot at the I.O.O.F. cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2 p.m. Friday until 11 a.m. Saturday. The family requests that memorials other than flowers be made to the Fulton County Cancer Detection Center.
