Description	:	Carl Chester Larson was born January 22, 1922, on a farm southeast of Edgar. He was the second son of Carl Albin and Sophia __ Larson. Read More	Carl Chester Larson was born January 22, 1922, on a farm southeast of Edgar. He was the second son of Carl Albin and Sophia __ Larson. He died December 4, 2003, at his home in Edgar, at the age of 81 years, 10 months and 12 days. "Chet" attended country grade school at the _______ and Branstitre School in rural Edgar. He graduated from Edgar High School with the class of 1939, at the age of 17. Following high school, he lived with a brother in Elmira, NY. He worked a variety of jobs, including dry ______ing pickup and delivery, pin setter, and ___________ as a civil servant timekeeper at a government nursery in Big Flats, NY. Returning to the Edgar area in 1941, he worked as a "gandy dancer" for the Union Pacific Railroad. In 1942 he was called to serve his country in the US Army Air Force. He served in the Headquarters Squadron, Army Air Force Message Center, Pentagon, Washington DC. He was united in marriage May 2, 1945 to Billie Jean Mileger at the National Christian Church in Washington. Billie had been working in the War Department in Washington. After his discharge in January 1946, he continued to work in the Message Center for about a year, and then he and Billie returned to Edgar to stay. Chet was confirmed in the Evangelical Gethsemane Lutheran Church at Ong on June 17, 1934. After marriage, he attended the Edgar Christian Church until his death. In Edgar, he farmed, worked for an irrigation well drilling company, sold cars, and served the community as its Postmaster from 1961 until his retirement in December of 1991. He served on the Edgar School Board, and was a 50-year member of American Legion Post #248 of Edgar. Chet was preceded in death by his parents; a son Carl Jr., 3 brothers and 2 sisters, and 1 grandchild. Left to cherish his memory is his wife Billie Jean, son John Larson and wife Mary of Lincoln, NE, and daughter Jill Mannix and husband Mark of Lee's Summit, MO. One brother, Harold Larson of rural Edgar, sister Marvel Wykoff of West Valley City, UT, and sister Karen Hutchinson of Fair Oaks, CA and 10 grandchildren. Chet was a loving husband and father, and took great delight and interest of his children and grandchildren. Funeral services were held Tuesday, December 9, 2003 at the Williams Funeral Home Chapel in Edgar, NE. with Pastor David King officiating. Burial with military honors were held in the Edgar Cemetery, Edgar, NE. Williams Funeral Home of Edgar, NE was in charge of the arrangements. The Nelson Gazette, Thursday, December 11, 2003; pg. 3
