Description	:	Carl was born to Nels and Christina (Sorenson) Colfack at Dustin, NE, on July 16, 1921. He attended Country School and lived in Nebraska growing up. He married Rose LaVern Karel on September 5, 1942 at the Lutheran Church in Atkinson, NE, by Rev. Vahle. They were married 72 years. To this union, 4 children were born: Harvey, Marlene, Margie, and Gary. Carl served in the U.S. Army during WWII from October of 1942 until October of 1945. He married Rose LaVern Karel on September 5, 1942 at the Lutheran Church in Atkinson, NE, by Rev. Vahle. They were married 72 years. To this union, 4 children were born: Harvey, Marlene, Margie, and Gary. Carl served in the U.S. Army during WWII from October of 1942 until October of 1945. After his time in the Service, Carl rented a farm north of Bristow, then later bought a truck and house in Bristow. Later on, the family moved to O’Neill, where he began working for Tri-State Poultry Company. After working for Tri-State, Carl began working for the State of Nebraska Department of Roads as a drag line operator and maintainer. On May 22, 1987, he was honored for 35 years. After Carl retired, he worked in the family drapery shop, installing the hardware and helping with the sheers, drapes and woven woods window treatment. He also bought some land and worked with cattle. Carl wanted to leave his family some land, that they might “enjoy the country” as he and his wife did growing up. He also enjoyed doing yardwork and going fishing. Carl was a member of the Gideons, O’Neill American Legion Simonson Post #93, V.F.W. Post #926, and Christ Lutheran Church in O’Neill. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Marlene Sterns and her husband Roger, his parents, 3 brothers; Albert, Arthur, and Emil, and 3 sisters; Merentha, Marie, and Thyra.
