Rose Laverne Colfack was born January 8, 1923 in Spencer, NE to Charles and Laura (Forsch) Karel. She grew up in Boyd County and graduated from Spencer High School. She taught school for a short time at the Southside Country School. Which was south of the Niobrara River. She married Carl Colfack on September 5, 1942 at the Lutheran Church in Atkinson, Nebraska. They were blessed with four children; Harvey, Marlene, Margie, and Gary. After moving their family to O’Neill, Rose worked at the Ben Franklin store. A. L. Patton purchased the fabric store next door to the Ben Franklin and Rose worked there for several years. She later owned and operated the Armgarde Drapery Shop. Following Carl’s retirement from the State of Nebraska, he was able to spend more time helping Rose in the drapery store. They owned and operated the store for many years until they both retired. Rose loved Arts and Crafts, sewing, painting and needlework. She painted china and was an active member of the “China Painting Club”. She enjoyed the flowers in the spring and summer and feeding and watching the birds. Rose enjoyed reading her Bible and sharing all she learned. She also enjoyed the Lutheran Newsletter and Billy Graham Magazine. She loved visiting with her friends, children, and grandchildren. Rose loved her home and was able to live there with the help of her son Harvey until this April 22, when she needed the help of the Nursing Home. Rose is survived by her children; Harvey Colfack and wife Joan of O’Neill, Gary Colfack and wife Alona of Temecula, CA, Margie Crosby of Placentia, CA; 10 grandchildren, 23 great- grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild. She is preceded in death by her parents Charles and Laura Karel; Carl Colfack her husband of 72 years; daughter, Marlene Sterns and husband Roger; sister, Dorothy Karel; and several sisters and brothers-in- law; many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
