He was born May 17, 1931, in Allen County to Ralph B. Joseph and Mary Brenneman Joseph Cool, who preceded him in death. He had been married to Julianne Downey Joseph, who survives in Lima. Mr. Joseph was owner/operator of Carl D. Joseph Excavating and had retired as a lieutenant from the Lima Fire Department. He was a member of Sugar Creek Church of Brethren. He was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 370, Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 199, American Legion Post 96 and Orioles Nest 173. He was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War. Survivors also include three daughters, Pamela (Dave) Rathke of Golden, Colo., and Dianna (Tyson) Parish and Heather (Brent) Dawson, both of Lima; a brother, David (Cathy) Joseph of Naples, Fla.; a sister-in-law, Mary Joseph of Wapakoneta; and three grandchildren, Jared Parish, Joshua Parish and Abigael Dawson, all of Lima. Services will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday at Chiles & Sons-Laman Funeral Homes, Shawnee Chapel. The Revs. Ray Swallow and Martin Moyer will officiate. Burial will be in Sugar Creek Cemetery. ___________________________________ A 72-year-old Lima man was killed early Sunday morning when he lost control of his pick-up truck on South Thayer Road. Carl Joseph was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, just north of state Route 309. Joseph was driving south on Thayer Road when he went off the right side of the road into a ditch, said Sgt. Scott Nolan of the Allen County Sheriff's office. He drove back on the road, went through the intersection at state Route 309, lost control of the vehicle and rolled it, Nolan said. The vehicle came to rest against a tree, Nolan said.
