Carl, the youngest of eight children of Herman and Mary (Kromann) Schneider, was born in Shickley, May 8, 1898. He died suddenly in Lakewood, Col., August 25, 1980, at the age of 82. Carl's family moved to Geneva in 1900, shortly after the death of his father. He attended Geneva public schools and graduated in 1917. He volunteered for the Army, and served during the final months of World War I. Carl began his banking career at the Lincoln State Bank on October 1, 1917. he came to Geneva State Bank as a bookkeeper on April 1, 1918. During his 62 years at the bank, interrupted only briefly by Army service, Carl held the positions of teller, cashier, vice president, executive vice president and chairman of the board, the office he held at the time of his death. He was also chairman of the board and president of the Farmers State Bank of Fairmont. His keen mind, sound judgment and dedication to his profession will be missed by his associates and the entire banking community. Carl shared in the responsibilities of his church and community, as was evidenced by his service on the board of trustees of St. Joseph Catholic Church and his dedication to the improvement of the cemetery. Carl had been a member of the Geneva City Council; a Community Club president and a member of the Fillmore County Fair Board. He enjoyed being involved in fund raising drives, particularly those toward the building of the Fillmore County Hospital, and for the support of the American Legion baseball program. He was a member of the Crosier Lay Apostolate, Knights of Columbus and Elks Lodge No. 1024. Carl maintained a lifelong interest in sports. He was a member of the Geneva Golf Association and could e seen on the golf course almost daily. He was looking forward to league bowling this fall. He was an enthusiastic University of Nebraska football fan, and attended all home games. Survivors include his wife, Mildred (O'Brien); sons, Richard of Omaha and Robert of Phoenix, Ariz.; daughters, Gertrude of Lakewood, Col., Mrs. Thomas (Mary Joan) Nitsch and Mrs. Richard (Charlotte) Buse, both of Omaha; a sister, Mrs. Min Yetman of Hastings and 15 grandchildren. Military services were conducted by members of the American Legion, Sloan-Bolton Post No. 68. Pallbearers were Gene Goodrich, Ben Koehler, John O'Brien, Melvin Ralston, Warren Rischling, Ernest Stengel, Hugh Wilkins and Don Yetman. Burial was in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
