Read More	Source: Victor Record 2/4/1976 Services for Carl Weiss Tuesday, Feb. 3 Carl Weiss was born Nov. 7, 1893 on a farm 3 miles east of Deep River to George and Eliza (Timm) Weiss. He died of a heart attack in Marengo Memorial hospital on Saturday afternoon, Jan. 31, at the age of 82 years and 2 months. Mr. Weiss was baptized into the Christian faith at St. John's Lutheran church, rural Victor, and received his education at St. John's Lutheran school. He was confirmed at St. John's Lutheran church by Rev. Otto Kitzmann on April 12, 1908. His verse of blessing was: "Fear not, for I am with you, be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my victorious right hand," Is. 41:10. The departed was a member of St. James Lutheran church of Victor at the time of his death. He was a veteran of WW I serving in the 82nd Infantry Divison of the U.S. Army in France. On Nov. 19, 1919 he was united in marriage to Bertha A. Faas by Rev. N. G. Uhlig. This union was blessed with three children: George, Florence Baethke and Verne. Carl and Bertha celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary last year. After this marriage Carl and Bertha began farming east of Deep River. In 1941 they bought a farm near Guernsey which they operated until retirement. This last year they resided in their home in Victor. The departed was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Albert and Martin, his daughter, Florence, and two grandsons. Survivors include his wife, Bertha; his two sons, George of Victor, Verne of Wayzata, MN., 10 grandchildren, five great grandchildren, his brother Arnold of San Clemente, CA., and many other relatives and friends. The funeral service in memory of Carl Weiss was held at St. James Lutheran church, Victor, on Tuesday, Feb. 3, with Rev. Lenser officiating. The congregation sang, "I'm But a Stranger Here" and "The Lord's My Shepherd, I'll Not Want". Organist was Jane McHarg. Pall bearers: Gerald Collingwood, Harold Collingwood, Robert Faas, Daryl Faas, Arlen Faas and Kenneth Weiss. Burial arrangements were handled by McAninch Funeral home. Interment was in the Victor cemetery. St. James Ladies Aid served light refreshments upon the return from the gravesite.
