Read More	The Altoona Herald, Altoona, IA May 19, 1921 Carl Kurtzweil Dies After, Long Illness Carl Eugene Kurtweil, son of Mr. and Mrs. M. Kurtzweil, died at the family home here Monday, May 16, 1921 after an illness of nearly three months, aged 29 years, 10 months, 4 days. He was taken sick some three months ago at DeGraff, Ohio where he was acting as agricultural advisor for the DeGraff Food Co. His sickness developed into typhoid fever, his sister Ruth went to his bedside and was with him for six weeks when his father also went and it was decided to bring him home, the disease having affected his lungs and also his heart so that no hopes were entertained for his recovery. He was brought home about a month ago, where he has been carefully and tenderly cared for but it was impossible for him to overcome the ravages of the disease and he answered the call of his Master on Monday morning. He was born in Des Moines on July 12, 1891, was a graduate of the Altoona High school also of Iowa State college at Ames and later attended the University of Minnesota, where he received his Masters degree in Science. He served the pathological division of the U.S. Agricultural Department and was U.S. agricultural agent for the state of Tennessee for two years. Last December he occupied the position as agricultural advisor for the Degraff Food Co. of Degraff, Ohio, where he was engaged in perfecting strains of seeds, especially annual sweet clover, in which the Degraff Food Co. was interested. He was a most energetic and studious young man being especially interested in agriculture and seeds. He is survived by his parents and six sisters and four brothers. Funeral services were held from the Methodist church Wednesday morning at 11 o'clock, conducted by Rev. C. H. Miller of Des Moines, a former pastor, assisted by the pastor Rev. F.T. Stevenson, after which the body was laid in rest in the family lot in the Altoona cemetery.
