Read More	Prominent Young Business Man Dies in City -- Ill for one Week Carl Evans Balentine, vice president and general superintendent of the Balentine Packing Company, died at a local hospital at 9:30 o'clock yesterday morning following one week of illness. The news of his death is causing widespread sorrow among the many friends of the family. Mr. Balentine was 31 years of age and an outstanding business man of Greenville. His father, the late W. H. Balentine, founded the business which bears his name. Mr. Balentine was a member of the Buncombe Street Methodist church. He was also a member of the Greenville Country Club, the Greenville lodge No. 858, B. P. O. E., the Greenville Chamber of Commerce, all Masonic bodies, including Walden lodge No. 274, of which he was a member, Hejaz Shrine and patrol and the Scottish Rite. Mr. Balentine is survived be his wife, Mrs. Ossie Miller Balentine, of this city. He is also survived by his former wife, who was Miss Doris McGee, and by two sons who were born to this union; Carl Evans Balentine, Jr., and Billie M. Balentine. His mother, Mrs. W. H. Balentine, also survives, as do five brothers, W. L. Balentine, B. B. Balentine, W. H. Balentine Jr., J. Marshall Ballentine, and David Balentine, all of Greenville, and five sisters, Mrs. Kenneth Cass, Mrs. Edwin Meares, Miss Mary Balentine, and Miss Sara Balentine, all of this city, and Mrs. Lewis, Hazelwood, of Chicago, Ill. Funeral services conducted by Dr. R. F. Morris and Dr. B Rhett Turnipseed, will be held this afternoon at 3:30 o'clock at the Mackey mortuary and the interment will be made in Springwood Cemetery. Pending the hour of the service, the body will be at the residence of Mrs. W. H. Balentine, Sr., 510 Rutherford street. The following persons will serve as the active pallbearers: Race Morrison, George S. Malavis, C. C. Bruce, Frank Kitchen, D. B. Leatherwood, John Batson, Sam Gibson, and Lee Welch. The members of the Shrine patrol, together with Dr. C. O. Bates, Dr. W. L. Bates, Dr. Jack Parker, Ham McBee, Dr. Curfah B. Earle, J. H. Rainey, T. E. Christenberry, Malcom Davenport, C. M. Wing, B. H. Peace Jr., George Leake, M. L. Merchant and Walter Woodward are asked to compose the escort of honor.
