Went to work for Will (or Bill) Samuelson at Trumbull, Nebraska and met and married Effie Hawthorne Talbert Hultquist. Raised as a youth near Verona and a little later four miles east and one south of Clay Center, Nebraska. Went to work for Will (or Bill) Samuelson at Trumbull, Nebraska and met and married Effie Hawthorne Talbert Hultquist. Will was also from the Verona / Saronville and went to Trumbull to own and manager a lumberyard and implement business. Harry met Effie while delivering a cream separator for Will. Harry and Effie were married September 14, 1913. His full name was actually Carl Harry August Hultquist. In 1923, ten years after Effie and Harry were married they were walking by August Berndt's house and apparently the mailbox read August Berndt and Harry commented they both had the same name. Effie did not understand so C. H. said Carl Harry August Hultquist. Effie was quite surprised because she at that moment found out she had been married to C. H. for 10 years and had never known his full name. In the 21 years I knew my grandfather I heard Effie call him Harry but in town doing business he was called C. H. or Mr. Hultquist and in a rush just Hultquist. The home phone and probably the business phone was just answered "Hultquist". The name is pronounced like ult but on the phone Effie made it sound more like Hallquist. C. H. owned and managed an elevator. For you city folks that would be a grain elevator. Did you see all 20 photos and read the captions? In the 1930s when the new high school was built he was the President of the Minden School Board. This school was used for right at 80 years and was still in extremely good shape for an 80 year old building. During this same time period C. H. was also on the Minden City Council.
