He passed away on February 4, 1989, at the Fillmore County Hospital in Geneva at the age of 81 years, 7 months and 4 days. Carl attended grade school in a country school south of Exeter. He passed away on February 4, 1989, at the Fillmore County Hospital in Geneva at the age of 81 years, 7 months and 4 days. Carl attended grade school in a country school south of Exeter. During his teens he helped farm with his father and brothers. He worked as a hired hand for several farmers and cattle feeders in the McCool Junction and Exeter areas. Carl married Lillian Zeleny on November 28, 1933, and to this union were born two children, a daughter, Jean, and a son, Richard (Dick). Carl and Lillian resided in Fillmore County their entire lifetime. He farmed and fed cattle and had a great love for doing both. He always did most of his own mechanical repairs and he was very handy with carpenter work. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing and hunting. Carl and Lillian retired in October of 1980 and moved into their new home in Fairmont. Carl suffered his first stroke on January 1, 1981. For the next three and one-half years he tried very hard to accept his restrictions. He enjoyed sitting on their east porch visiting with his old and with his new young friends. He moved into Fairview Manor on August 4, 1984, and spent his time watching television and waiting for visitors, especially his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian; his parents, Henry and Mary; one brother, Clarence and wife, Helen Arbuck; a sister-in-law Marilyn Arbuck, wife of Clyde. He is survived by his son, Richard and wife, Deanna; daughter Jean and her husband; Billy Jacobson; all of Fairmont; brothers, Marion and wife Henrietta, of Lincoln, Perry and wife Zesta, of Grafton, Russell and wife Greta, of McCool Junction, and Clyde of Fairmont; sisters, Carolyn Styskal and husband, William of Exeter and Gladys Thomas and husband, Marion, of Shelby; two granddaughters, Cindy Slocum and husband, Jack, and Susan Jensen and husband, Randy, all of Fairmont; three great-granddaughters, Amanda and Megan Jensen and Anna Slocum; twin great-grandsons, Matthew and Daniel Slocum; many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted from the Farmer & Son Funeral Home in Geneva on Tuesday, February 7, with the Rev. Norman Kauble officiating. Mrs. Robert Zeleny accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Roland Hall, who sang "Beyond the Sunset" and "The Old Rugged Cross." Pallbearers were Melvin Ackerman, Bernard Arbuck, Wayne Arbuck, Lloyd Dawson, Richard Frazier and Bernard Zeleny. Interment was in the Fairmont Public Cemetery.
