He was born July 21, 1918, in Milo, the son of Oscar L. and Pearl M. (Morrill) Hamlin. He graduated from Milo High School and Higgins Classical Institute. He was born July 21, 1918, in Milo, the son of Oscar L. and Pearl M. (Morrill) Hamlin. He graduated from Milo High School and Higgins Classical Institute. In 1940, he married Althea Conary and they enjoyed 67 years of blessed marriage. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II, where he spent two years as a radar man 2/C aboard the USS LSM 340. He worked for 15 years for Dowlin Lumber Co. In 1955, he was employed by New York Life Insurance Co., as a salesman, retiring in 1975. He was a Boy Scout, a 50-year member of the Piscataquis Masonic Lodge No. 44 and a 61-year member of the J.P. Chaisson American Legion Post No. 41, serving one year as commander. He served on the draft board and as a director of Mayo Memorial Hospital. Carl enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping at the family cottage on Schoodic Lake. He loved people and enjoyed telling them stories and reciting the poem "The Silver Canoe." Many family members and friends will remember him for his back rubs. He is survived by his wife, Althea of Milo; a son, Stephen and wife, Cheryl Hamlin, of Milo; three daughters, Cynthia Moore and husband, Richard, of Avon Park, Fla., Carla Jean Harmon and husband, Ernest, of Portland and Julia Andrews and husband, Philip, of Milo; a brother, Robert Hamlin of Brownville; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren, all of whom he dearly loved. He was predeceased by a brother, George Hamlin. A celebration of Carl's life will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, June 9, at the United Baptist Church, Milo, with the Rev. Ernest Madden officiating. Friends are invited to share fellowship and refreshment with the family after the service at the church. After cremation, burial will be in the family lot at Evergreen Cemetery.
