Barquist, of near Stanhope, passed away at their home Wednesday afternoon, December 21, 1910, his death being caused by typhoid fever, with which he had been ill but a few weeks. He was born December 31, 1899, and had he lived ten more days he would have attained his eleventh birthday. One sister has preceded him to the better land and he leaves to mourn his death a younger brother and his loving parents, besides relatives and numerous friends. No one can explain why a young boy, such as was Carl Barquist, should be called from this life at scarcely the age of eleven. Up to the time of this last illness he had always been in the best of health — hale, hearty and robust. He had not a thought that was not a gentle one, not one that did not hold all the world in the arms of its kindliness. He was sorely needed here. He was the light of the eyes of his parents, brother, and a large company of relatives and friends, and the light has now gone out. To them he was what the sunshine is to the world, and this eclipse to them brings both darkness and chill. For nearly eleven years he had been the joy and comfort of the home and his sweet presence brought a wealth of sunshine into the lives of every one with whom he came in contact. Bright, happy and cheerful, he always carried sunshine wherever he went. His death came as a dark shadow to the relatives and friends who loved him so dearly. Death is a hard master and takes from us our brightest and best, but in this time of their great affliction, the bereaved parents and brother have the sympathy of this entire community and we can only commend them to Him, who knows all things, and in times of such sorrow as this can alleviate the pain and suffering caused by the death of their darling son and brother. Funeral services were held at the residence Sunday at 12 o'clock, conducted by Rev. Andrea, a student from Rock Island, Illinois. Many of the relatives and the friends of the sorrowing family were present, and as they looked upon the sweet placid body in its casket and surrounded by beautiful flowers, their hearts swelled in sympathy for the bereaved family. The remains were laid to rest in the South Marion cemetery. "Sleep on in thy beauty, Thou sweet angel child, By sorrow unblighted, By sin undefiled.
