He was born on June 21, 1940, in Keokuk, the son of Carl Wayne Sr. and Catherine A. Breheny Beaird. He married Judy K. Elliot on Jan. 7, 1961, in Keokuk. She survives. Read More	Carl Wayne "Bud" Beaird Jr., 70, of Keokuk died at 6:27 a.m. Friday, Nov. 26, 2010, in Keokuk Area Hospital. He was born on June 21, 1940, in Keokuk, the son of Carl Wayne Sr. and Catherine A. Breheny Beaird. He married Judy K. Elliot on Jan. 7, 1961, in Keokuk. She survives. He was a resident of Keokuk most of his life. Carl graduated from Keokuk High School in 1958 and from the University of Iowa School of Radiology, Iowa City, in 1959. He worked at Graham Hospital from 1959 to 1962 as an X-ray technician. Carl also was a salesman for Jemison Chevrolet in Keokuk. Later, he was a sales representative for the Prudential Insurance Company in Fort Madison for several years. Then, he returned to the radiology department at Graham Hospital for a year. In January 1967, Carl began working at the Army Ammunition Plant in West Burlington as an industrial radiographer. He retired with 35 years of service in August of 2002 with the title of chief X-ray inspector. He was a member of All Saints Catholic Church, Keokuk. He was a member of the Keokuk Jaycees where he had held numerous positions and chaired many projects. He was chairman of the Keokuk Street Fair in 1973. He received a lifetime membership in 1976 and was designated a JCI senator in 1980. He and his wife received the Jaycee Family Award for the year of 1980-81. Carl was active with his sons in Boy Scouts at Trinity United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Order of the Arrow and received a District Award of Merit. Carl also was a member of the University of Iowa Alumni Association. He was a volunteer coach for his sons' YMCA football, basketball and wrestling programs. In 1976, he served with his wife as co-president of the Hawthorne PTA. He had received a lifetime membership in the Keokuk Football Boosters. He was honored to be chosen by the KHS Student Council to be the grand marshal of the 1990 homecoming parade. Carl spent many hours working as a volunteer for KHS athletic programs. He was field announcer for the football games, announcer for the wrestling meets and helped with the track meets. He also enjoyed participating in the Keokuk Area Hospital Auxiliary Kardiac Kapers and Run-Walk sponsored by KAH and Keokuk Running Club. Prior to suffering a stroke in 1990, Carl was a bowler, golfer and enjoyed hunting. He supported the University of Iowa Hawkeye wrestling team going to many home meets. Additional survivors include: two sons, C. Martin Beaird "Marty" and his wife, Dr. Judy Wenger, of New York, N.Y., and Kyle W. Beaird and his wife, Dr. Leslie Beaird, of South Barrington, Ill.; four grandchildren, Abigail J., Molly C., Finnegan L. and Ella Grace Beaird; a brother, Michael A. Beaird and his wife, Brenda, of Keokuk; and a sister, Nancy J. Romes and her husband, Don, of Rochelle, Ill. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Mary Ann Haworth; two nephews, Gerald and Robert Haworth; and a great-nephew, Conor P. O'Rorke.
