The Williamson Funeral Home, Kennebec was in charge of arrangments. Mr. Nelson was born Nov. 9, 1880, to Mr. and Mrs., Martin Nelson at Hawarden, Ia. He was found dead at his home here on Friday morning, Oct. 31 apparently suffering a fatal heart attack. He came to Lyman County in 1890 with his widowed mother who married Chris Helleckson. In 1893 the Hellecksons set up a combined store and post office north of the Milwaukee railroad tracks along Medicine Creek. Mr. Nelson's mother was the person who suggested the name of Presho for the post office. Mr. Nelson graduated from Luther College, Decorah Ia., in 1896, and later from a carpenter's school in Minneapolis. He helped with roundups in 1893-95 and was the first organist of the United Lutheran Church located north of the railroad tracks. In 1902 Mr. Nelson homesteaded west of Presho along Medicine Creek and on May 15, 1912, was married to Clara Hilmoe. She died Feb. 23, 1913. During most of his lifetime, he worked at the carpenter's trade until his retirement several years ago. He was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church. Survivors include one half brother Earnie Helleckson, Maxton, N.C., and several cousins.
